Love Songs in Spanish with Guitar Accompaniment
Saturday, 2:00-3:00pm in the backyard fire-pit circle
Sunday, 3:30-4:30pm in the backyard fire-pit circle

Description:
In this workshop you will learn to back yourself up on guitar while singing a song in Spanish. I will teach beginner and intermediate versions of guitar accompaniment for a couple of Latin American song forms - one per day. You’ll learn specific strumming patterns, bass lines, and perhaps a lead riff or two. Plus, you’ll learn to sing a beautiful song in Spanish! Lyrics w/translations and chord charts will be provided. Students should be familiar with the basic open chords on guitar (or ukulele, or whatever): A, Am, B7, C, D, Dm, E, Em, and G.

Instructor:

Chris Reid is a musician and high school Spanish teacher with deep roots in the Bay Area folk music scene. He teaches a popular weekly class at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, called Love Songs in Spanish. A singing guitarist in multiple genres, Chris has lived and traveled extensively in the Spanish-speaking world and has passionately immersed himself in the music and culture of Latin America for nearly two decades. He is patient, encouraging and warm in his teaching style and believes that every voice should be heard. Chris performs locally with Alma, Corazón y Vida, Lars and in Charge, and the Purple House Swing Band.

Feel free to contact the instructor at krsreid@gmail.com if you have any questions.
